Test Every Voice

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” 1 John 4:1, KJV

Not every voice that sounds spiritual carries the truth of God. Deception is most dangerous when it resembles truth closely enough to escape examination. John instructs believers not to accept every message, impression or prophecy without testing it. Spiritual maturity is not measured by how quickly we receive a word, but by how faithfully we examine it through Scripture. God will never lead us in a way that contradicts His written Word, distorts the character of Christ or produces pride, confusion and disobedience. Before acting on what you hear, pause and test it. Does it agree with Scripture? Does it exalt Jesus or draw attention to a person? Does it produce the fruit of the Holy Spirit? Seek God in prayer, study the Word carefully and welcome counsel from mature believers. Discernment grows when intimacy with God becomes deeper than our fascination with spiritual experiences. Closing Charge: Do not be impressed by every spiritual-sounding voice. Know the Word, remain sensitive to the Holy Spirit and test everything before allowing it to direct your life. Truth will protect your purpose from deception. Closing Prayer: Heavenly Father, sharpen my spiritual discernment and establish me firmly in Your truth. Teach me to recognise Your voice, reject every deception and examine all things through Your Word. Keep my heart humble, my mind renewed and my steps aligned with Your will. In Jesus’ name, Amen. ~ Esther Ngoobi
